Utah County & American Fork Canyon

American Fork Canyon offers some of the most iconic high-alpine Jeep trails in Utah. Difficulty ranges from beginner-friendly dirt roads to advanced rock crawling. This guide covers everything — know your limits and check seasonal closures.

Tibble Fork → Silver Lake Flat

Difficulty: Beginner

Location: Up AF Canyon • Distance: ~3 miles • Time: 20–40 minutes

This mellow dirt road connects Tibble Fork Reservoir to the beautiful Silver Lake Flat. Suitable for stock rigs and great for families or sunset runs.

Silver Lake TH Spur

Difficulty: Beginner–Moderate

Location: Above Silver Lake Flat • Distance: Short spur • Time: 15–30 minutes

A mild climb past the lake with small rocks and ruts depending on runoff. Still friendly for stock rigs if taken slow.

Forest Lake

Difficulty: Difficult

Location: AF Canyon • Distance: ~3 miles • Time: 1–2 hours

Forest Lake is a well-known rock crawling trail with large embedded boulders, step-ups, and articulation spots. Not recommended for stock rigs.

One of Utah’s most iconic rock trails with waterfalls, ledges, and boulder fields. Only for well-built rigs.

Mary Ellen Gulch

Difficulty: Moderate–Difficult

Location: Off the main ridge road • Distance: ~6 miles • Time: 1–2.5 hours

A long, rocky climb with mining history and great views. Stock rigs can sometimes make it early season with caution.

A moderate ridge road with rocks, ruts, switchbacks, and incredible overlooks.

The easier side is stock-rig friendly in dry conditions.
